Join artists, Kyle Starks, Aaron Tanner and Kevin Titzer for a discussion about art making, quiet success and being born in Evansville. Each took a different path within their field -- comic book writer/illustrator, book designer and sculptor. We will discuss the different choices they made early on and how these choices effected their current art careers. WNIN radio host, John Gibson, will moderate.
Kyle Starks is a two time Eisner award nominee, the highest award given in the field of comic books. He has currently been the writer and occasional artist for the Rick & Morty comic franchise for nearly three years now. All of his creator owned series (Rock Candy Mountain, Sexcastle, Kill Them All) have been optioned to Hollywood. Most notably Sexcastle has been optioned by the Russo Brothers for a feature film adaptation. He has worked with Marvel, Image, Oni and recently Dynamite comics for the forthcoming Mars Attacks series.
Aaron Tanner is the owner of the book publishing company, Melodic Virtue. The limited-run collector's editions he creates offer an immersive, and definitive, visual history of each band he works with. Two of his most recent book subjects have be the bands The Pixies and Face to Face and is currently working with the Butthole Surfers. Tanner's work has won numerous national awards and has been recognized by several prestigious international design publications LA Times, Pitchfork, SPIN, Paste Magazine.
Kevin Titzer is a studio artist focused on sculpture and site specific installation art. His work has been exhibited in Japan, Mexico, Canada, Thailand, and throughout the United States. Recently he was commissioned to design and build stage props and puppets for the cross cultural theatre production "Memoires d'un Sablier" which premiered at the Charleville Festival in France.
